my take on: starting a new job

So, those of you who know me know that I recently started a new job and if you are considering leaving a job you are comfortable in or maybe you are about to go through a big change, this is for you!

If you are considering leaving your current job, my best advice before I start this blog post is to pray about what God thinks, pray for His will, and pray for peace about the situation.

You are leaving something you are comfortable in and starting new territory!! It is a lot to process. I had a lot of anxiety when I was thinking about my first day. I asked myself questions like: “what if they don’t like me?” or “what if I don’t learn fast enough?”. I have now realized that all of that worrying, was just a waste of time. We have to remember that everyone we work with has been the new girl at some point. They know how it feels to be taking everything in and trying to learn as quickly as you can. I am very grateful that my new coworkers have been so patient with me as I have been learning the way everything works.

It is also so important to be the person who gives people grace in the workplace. We all want that grace in return so we have to remember to treat others the way we want to be treated. If someone gets impatient with you, be patient with them. They are adjusting to someone new as much as you are adjusting to being someone new. In my opinion one of the smartest things you can do (this goes for everywhere - not just work) is not talk bad about people or really not to be so judgemental. This is something I work at every single day, and my boyfriend hears the worst of it. Especially being raised in the south, this is something that seems acceptable but it is SO not. You don’t want to be known as the girl that will talk bad about Jane to Stacy and then turn around and talk bad about Stacy to Jane if you know what I mean! This goes hand in hand with giving people grace. The definition of grace is: disposition to or an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency (merriam-webster dictionary).

Ultimately there is no way to have a perfect start at a new job but my best advice is to be yourself, be professional, be kind, and do your best. That is all you can do.

If you are about to start something new, CONGRATULATIONS and you’ve got this!!
